External Audit

We are experienced experts in external audit, holding the designation of Registered Company Auditors, as approved by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

We provide external audit services to:

At Altius we have a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and audit requirements of the many Acts of State and Commonwealth Parliaments under which our clients are regulated, such as:

  • Associations (Incorporation) Act
  • Local Government Act and Local Government Regulation
  • Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act – “the CATSI Act”

Local government

The expertise of our people has been recognised for many years by successive Auditors-General. We have been appointed to audit the majority of the Councils in the Far North, Cape York and Torres Strait regions as well as many in the Gulf of Carpentaria and Western Queensland. We have a depth of knowledge of the local government sector matched by few other firms in our region. This allows us to provide many non-statutory audit services to local governments via our assurance, advisory and consulting services.

Public sector

In the wider public sector Altius has worked with other statutory bodies such as Government Owned Corporations in sectors as diverse as transport, water, retail and tourism. We understand the accountability and audit requirements of statutory bodies from our contract audit appointments by successive Auditors-General. Our deep understanding of these requirements allows us to provide many non-statutory audit services to statutory public sector bodies via our assurance, advisory and consulting services.

Indigenous organisations

The region Altius calls home has one of the highest indigenous populations in Australia. We are proud to service many prominent Indigenous organisations throughout the region and to have done so for many years.  As well as understanding the statutory audit requirements Indigenous organisations have to meet, we have built many enduring relationships with our Indigenous clients. We work sensitively and in harmony with our clients with an acute awareness of cultural sensitivities in performing our audits.

Not-for-profit sector

The not-for-profit sector continues to experience considerable change in accountability requirements since the introduction of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (“ACNC”). At Altius we are always across these changes, so in engaging us as your auditors you can be sure all requirements of your relevant legislation are addressed.
